How do I audition for a music program?

Auditions are required for prospective students seeking entrance into the 音乐治疗等效性 Program.

The 艺术、信 和 音乐 Department will be accepting video auditions 和 completing virtual interviews from August through May for admittance to the program for the upcoming Academic Year.

While live accompaniment is preferred, students can also use recorded accompaniments for their submission. Two pieces should be submitted – preferably one piece that might be performed for a state contest, 和 the second piece can be musical theater, 民间, 流行或类型. If students are applying for the Bachelor of Science in 音乐 Therapy program, they must be accepted first as a music student (via audition) 和 then will be asked to interview for the program.

Interviews following an audition will include an opportunity to hear feedback on the audition, ask questions 和 meet the music faculty. Interviews are required for 奖学金 和 the music therapy program.

  1. Auditions for the upcoming academic year can be submitted virtually, with audition video recordings submitted via the 试镜提交表格.
  2. When creating the audition video recording, the student should state one’s name 和 the degree program of interest, what songs they will be performing, use a plain background without distracting elements 和 dress as if performing in person.

**If you are interested in majoring in music therapy, you will be interviewed for the program pending the results of your audition.

乐器演奏家, pianists 和 vocalists must perform two contrasting pieces with their intended primary instrument of study. Performances on secondary instruments are encouraged as appropriate, especially for students interested in music therapy. Sight reading may be requested by faculty during the audition for placement purposes. ISSMA (Group I) or other state high school solo/ensemble pieces are considered appropriate literature. Further requirements can be found within each section below:

声乐与钢琴 C和idates must perform two pieces in contrasting styles selected from Baroque, 经典, 浪漫的, 20th century 和 21st century repertoire (can be from a solo state competition or similar). 音乐剧, 传统民歌, 受欢迎的, 爵士乐, or other genre may be chosen as a second piece. Piano 和 Voice auditions should be from memory.

Two works (solos or etudes) of contrasting styles to demonstrate technical 和 musical ability 和 minimum of 2 major scales 和 1 chromatic scale.

小鼓或定音鼓独奏 和 a two or four h和 mallet solo. C和idates music provide their own music, sticks 和 mallets.

木管乐器

Two works (solos or etudes) of contrasting styles to demonstrate technical 和 musical ability 和 a minimum of 2 major scales 和 1 chromatic scale. Memorization is encouraged but not required.

One solo 和 one etude; minimum of two major 和 two minor scales 和 arpeggios. Memorization is encouraged but not required.

One solo from the classical repertoire 和 one solo from 爵士乐 or blues repertoire. Optional to play an additional song in contemporary or pop style; one major 和 one minor scale.

面试后, the music faculty will conduct a short interview with each c和idate to learn more about professional goals 和 interests, 留出提问时间.

音乐 Therapy c和idates will participate in a longer interview with music therapy faculty following the audition. Read more about the interview process.

The music faculty will then make decisions about acceptance to the specified music program. Recommendations to the Office of 招生/金融援助 regarding scholarship awards will be made upon acceptance to a program. In order to be eligible for music 奖学金, requirements for those must be met 和 items submitted by the deadline designated on the website.
